About
I started chess in my late teens but then went on a 20-year break and returned to the game in 2019.
I founded JP Chess in July 2021 after finding out that there are too few chess clubs in Boston, and for the few that exist, they are too far away from Jamaica Plain.
To me, chess is an art and there is beauty in every game. I love the social aspect of chess and knowing that people are connecting over the board and having fun. It's a game that I seek to play with locals whenever I travel.
My chess.com and lichess.org ids are both JIMZW. My rating is around 1800-1900 but fluctuates depending on the day.

Beers and Checkmates Jan 2026
The evening of January 9, 2026, saw chess players and enthusiasts come together at Sam Adams Brewery in Jamaica Plain for some beers and chess. It was our first gathering at the location and was well-attended. A good number of players were from JP Chess but there were also some new faces who had heard about the event on Instagram, Facebook and the MACA website. Thanks go to Alex C, for organizing and running the event with assistance from Adam. We hope to run again at a future date. Photos:

Boston Chess Congress 2026
There was good representation from JP Chess at the Boston Chess Congress 2026 held early January 2026 at the Hyatt in East Boston. The JP Chess players along with support totaled more than 12. Thanks to a donation from Charlie Woodruff who paid for a JP Chess team room on the Saturday where our players could go to relax and analyze games.
