Rapid Nights

Once a quarter JP Chess has a Rapid Night which comprises of a tournament using standard SWISS system pairing. The next Rapid Night tournament will be in May 2026. There are 5 rounds with one game per round. The time controls are 10 minutes per player with a delay of 5 seconds. The games are not rated. Entry is free and prizes are limited.

G10|d5 (10 mins, 5 seconds delay)

5 Rounds,1 game per round (color determined by SWISS pairing system)

Schedule

6:00 Casual chess and in-person registration will open.

6:20 All players should be present and checked in with the Tournament Director

6:20 Spots freed up and first round pairings done

6:30 Round 1

7:05 Round 2

7:40 Round 3

8:15 Round 4

8:50 Round 5

9:20 End of Tournament (approx. time)

Rounds 2-5 may start sooner/later than scheduled

Rules

FIDE Rapid rules will apply. This includes time penalties for illegal moves (the position immediately before the irregularity shall be reinstated. After the first completed illegal move by a player, the arbiter shall give two minutes extra time to his/her opponent; for the second completed illegal move by the same player the arbiter shall declare the game lost by this player).

Prizes

To be determined on the day but may include JP Chess Mugs and key rings. Depending on entrants there may be prizes awarded to a lower rated category.

Safety

If you feel sick or have been in close contact with someone recently with COVID, please do not attend the tournament. We are meeting in a public place. Please keep your belongings safe at all times. Parental supervision is required for juniors.

Registered Players and Waitlist

Registration will open at the start of the month of the tournament. Click on the register button below. Priority will be given to Thursday regulars. Spots are limited to 24 players, but potentially we may add 6 more spots on the evening depending on available physical space. Your name will appear on the list once accepted by tournament administrator. Players not present and checked in with the tournament director by 6:20pm may lose their spot to someone waiting.

If you are on the waitlist or wish to play, please turn up on the evening when spots for no-shows will be given on a first come first served basis from 6:20pm. If you have entered and can no longer play, please email us at jamaicaplainchess@gmail.com
